the first thing you need to do is get the idea out of your head that yoga is all about turning yourself into knots. the main thing that yoga is about is breathing. the basic poses are very simple and the first thing you learn is how to breathe. standing perfectly still with your hips under your shoulders and your feet under your hips while your arms hang at your sides, that's tadasana, the mountain. it's the first pose that many others flow from.
and perhaps most importantly, if you have a good instructor, zie will take your physical challenges into consideration when working with you - any physical challenges, not just weight.
