Yoga question

A friend at school convinced me to sign up to take yoga. Im not sure how he managed this, unless there was the promise of nudity and/or alcohol involved, but i am registered.

My question is this: can fat people even do yoga? And by fat, im talking huge...like someone who makes King Kong look like Tarzan's chimp.

the first thing you need to do is get the idea out of your head that yoga is all about turning yourself into knots. the main thing that yoga is about is breathing. the basic poses are very simple and the first thing you learn is how to breathe. standing perfectly still with your hips under your shoulders and your feet under your hips while your arms hang at your sides, that's tadasana, the mountain. it's the first pose that many others flow from.

and perhaps most importantly, if you have a good instructor, zie will take your physical challenges into consideration when working with you - any physical challenges, not just weight.

My worst fear is that this is just going to be one of those P.E. classes that is actually open to everyone and there will be no chance for 1-on-1 communication with the instructor.

It's a class through school. It's held in the Student Rec Center, but they also have these free classes that are open to any students, called SouthFit. I'm afraid that there will be way too many people there.

There isn't yet, but there will be later, closer to time for the semester to start.
